VoIP service Viber has officially launched Viber Out, a new feature that lets users make low-cost calls to landlines and mobile phones from within its smartphone app.
Viber Out is similar to Skype’s external calling service, but has a number of distinct benefits. For one, according to PC Mag, Viber Out is significantly cheaper than competing platforms. The app also lets subscribers use their real phone number as their Caller ID, so there’s no need for contacts to save a separate VoIP number to recognise who’s calling.
Viber Out is currently available to users on Android, iOS and through its desktop app. When it comes to making calls, users can buy credit via in-app purchases, or with a credit card on the desktop client. Viber has also promised to roll out its worldwide calling service to Windows Phones in the near future.
“Viber Out gives our millions of users a new way to use Viber and ensures that they can reach any contact at any time,” CEO Talmon Marco said in a statement. “We will continue to improve Viber Out, keeping our users connected at the most affordable rates possible.”
